Check the closures for Pyramid, the wildfires have closed the lake down a few days. The lake held at 85 percent of its storage capacity, and water temperatures were in the low fifties. Striped bass and largemouth remained the best bets for anglers with anglers doing well near the marina. Striped bass anglers hooked up on a variety of baits. Sardines and anchovies have been the go-to baits, but fish also ate bloodworms and nightcrawlers. The big swimbait bite put some solid zebras in the boat, but that bite has been hit or miss. The best bet for striper has been cut baits early in the day. Large and smallmouth bass took drop shot, Ned rigs, Senkos, and jigs on main lake points and along bluff walls. A slow presentation was the most successful. Crankbaits fooled some larger model bass in the areas with rip rap and rocky structure. Catfish anglers got bites using sardines, anchovies, and dip bait in deeper coves around the lake.
