About Us

Southern California Fish Reports (SCFR) is a trusted source for anglers, providing timely and accurate fishing information across Southern California since 2000. Our coverage spans multiple counties, including San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Kern, Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, and Imperial counties. Additionally, we maintain dedicated sites for San Diego County and the Eastern Sierras.

With daily updates and a growing community, SCFR has become a go-to resource for anglers seeking fishing reports, maps, and fish planting information.

Originally part of Sportfishing Report, SCFR became an independent entity in 2015. Since then, we’ve expanded our content to better serve freshwater anglers, including detailed maps for fishing locations and weekly updates on fish planting schedules.

Our Founder

Chad Woods

Chad Woods, the founder of SCFR, grew up fishing in Southern California. Born and raised in the region, Chad discovered his passion for fishing at a young age. He began with freshwater fishing at Westlake, targeting catfish, bass, and panfish, but also quickly cut his teeth in saltwater fishing.

Chad honed his saltwater skills on 1/2-day boats from Oxnard and at the Malibu Pier, where he developed a love for the ocean and a deep appreciation for the Southern California fishing culture.

Chad attended Crespi High School in Encino, CA, and later earned a business degree in Finance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, graduating in 1990. Combining his love for fishing with his talent for coding, Chad entered the fishing industry in 1997 and has been innovating ever since.

Today, SCFR is one of the leading fishing websites, and Chad continues to push forward with technological advancements to meet the needs of the angling community.

The Future

SCFR has become an invaluable resource for anglers, charter boats, landings, marinas, and tackle shops. Our fish reports not only inform anglers but also drive traffic to our sponsors.

Looking ahead, we’re enhancing our platform to offer new features:

  • Post Your Catch: Share your catches and tag your favorite charter boat or fishing spot.
  • Big Fish List: Claim your spot or showcase your catch to friends and fellow anglers.

The future is exciting, and we’re committed to providing the best tools and resources for the fishing community. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to grow and innovate!
