The catfish action has been good at Santa Ana River Lakes this past week with a lot of nice stringers reported by anglers, and the best action has been for anglers who are floating baits up off the bottom with marshmallows or inflation.

The catfish are cruising above the bottom and are being caught when baits are around a foot above the bottom, so most anglers are fishing shrimp, mackerel, or meal worms in combination with marshmallows, or inflated nightcrawlers with marshmallows for even more buoyancy. Most anglers are using slip sinkers with 18-inch leaders. Even anglers fishing for tilapia with bobber-suspended nightcrawlers pieces are getting a few catfish. The catfish and tilapia are both being planted twice a week, usually on Tuesday and Friday, so the action has been very consistent.

There are also quite a few carp and the odd trout being landed.
