The catfish action has been just fair during the day at Corona Lake this past week, but the night bite has been good with more and bigger fish showing in the catch.
The south end of the lake in the flooded trees has been the best spot to get a limit of cats and the fish are up off the bottom cruising and more fish have been landed on bobber-suspended nightcrawlers than on baits soaked on the bottom. The best part of this tactic is that both tilapia and catfish are coming in on the nightcrawlers. Fly-lined pieces of JD's Mackerel or shrimp fished in the flooded brush have also been good bets.
Corona has some real bruiser catfish, and the top fish this past week was a 21 1/2-pounder that Alex and Robert Cruz of Fontana managed to land off the south shoreline on a nightcrawlers. The fish was released. Most stringers have had 1 1/2 to three-pound Silver King catfish.
Anglers target the bass and bluegill are also getting a few fish and the carp bite is pretty fair on dough baits. Only a few crappie showing right now. Anglers are reminded that the limit on trout has been lifted so anglers can take home as many rainbows as possible before the water becomes too warm for the rainbows. The bite is slowing but a few fish continue to show from deep water near the dam and main channel.

Catfish action is very good on marshmallow-buoyed baits at Santa Ana River Lakes
Santa Ana River LakesThe catfish action has been good at Santa Ana River Lakes this past week with a lot of nice stringers reported by anglers, and the best action has been for anglers who are floating baits up off the bottom with marshmallows or inflation. The catfish are cruising above the bottom and are being caught when baits are around a foot above the bottom, so most anglers are fishing shrimp, mackerel, or meal worms in combination with marshmallows, or inflated nightcrawlers with......
