The lake held near 94 percent of capacity, and water temperatures hovered near eighty degrees. Anglers reported a tougher week of fishing at Castaic with the morning and afternoon boils being the best bet. Stripers and bass have been boiling throughout the lake from opening until about 8:30 am with most of the action taking place near Trout Point, Hawks Nest, and the shoreline between Bone Creek and Center Point. Patience has been the key to hooking up, as most of the action was brief surface feeding by one or two fish. Accurate casts right into the boil were needed to get bit. Poppers, walking baits, the bubble rig, and the donkey rig all fooled fish. After 9 am most anglers switched to finesse baits in 15 to 25 feet of water for a few more large and smallmouth. The boils have been returning in the late afternoon, and for those willing to fish all day trolling A-rigs and flies has been a good way to fool fish in the heat of the day. Catfish anglers hooked up with dip bait and nightcrawlers on the Carolina rig.
