Castaic rose to 94 percent of capacity, and water temperatures held near eighty degrees. Anglers have been chasing boils with topwater, the bubble rig, and small swimbaits for the first few hours of each day. Striped bass large and smallmouth can be fooled during the boils. Striped bass also took trolled shad streamer flies in 25 feet of water. Bass anglers found biters on drop shot, Ned rigs, and shaky heads in 10 to 20 feet of water, but most of the bass were on the small side. Bluegill have been thriving in the backs of coves, and anglers can catch a lot of the panfish with any live worm under a bobber. Catfish fell for dip bait, nightcrawlers, and cut sardines.
