Over the last few weeks, the water level in Castaic fell considerably, but the water stabilized at 37 percent of capacity last week. Water temperatures have been in the low seventies. Bass anglers reported an improved bite on finesse baits and topwater lures. Drop shot and Carolina rigs worked well in 5 to 25 feet of water, and bass fell for weightless Senkos along bluff walls. Early morning anglers reported a good topwater bite while throwing buzz baits, walking baits, and Whopper Ploppers. After the winds picked up anglers found biters tight to shore on jerkbaits, and the topwater bite has been returning in the afternoons. Striper ate cut sardines and lugworms in 25 to 50 feet of water. Bigger fish fell for trolled umbrella rigs and flies. Catfish anglers used dip bait, garlic scented nightcrawlers, and cut baits to fool fish in coves around the lake.
