Lake Elevation: 1718 and dropping

Surface water temp: 65-69 degrees

Fish Plants: 2,500 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbow trout were planted November 22nd.

Lake Hours: 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 60's with mild winds. As a general rule, Santa Ana winds do not negatively affect the lake.

Bass: ??????Bass anglers had a difficult time this week. Swimbaits were brining in some big fish, but overall the bass numbers were in decline. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, and Huddlestons were the most reported baits. Drop shotting plastics on the points in 25-45 feet of water and Ice jigs were also reported as successful. The east dam, the west dam, shore line fishing, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those looking for bass. The National Bass West tournament generated some outstanding limits. The top nine teams got limits over 20 pounds. Team Keniry / Avina got the winning bag with 26.56 pounds, their biggest weighed 6.40. Evans and Getgen got second with 24.77 pounds and a 7.04 big fish. Team Beever / Oldham got the biggest of the event with a 7.37 pound kicker. Thomas Hyde of Imperial Valley got a 7.5 pound bass fishing with a swimbait. John-Michael Czerwiec of Imperial beach got a 6 pound bass fishing with a swimbait.

Trout: ????Shoreline anglers have monopolized the trout bite at DVL. Trout were biting from 10-25 feet near the marina mainly along the shoreline fishing area, but the holdover trout remained slow. ??Kastmasters, mini jigs, Power Worms, and Thomas Buoyants were all great baits for trout. Victor Hernandez of Moreno Valley got a 7.5 pound trout fishing from shore with rainbow Powerbait. Jose Coronel and Ruben Gonzales of Perris got their biggest eight trout totaling 9.4 pounds. they were fishing from shore with Powerbait and Kastmasters.

Striper: ??Striped bass were on the attack this week. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits were the most reported lures for striper. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing points near the marina or on the west dam is advised. Nhan Doan of Moreno Valley got a 12.3 pound striper fishing on the shore with a swimbait.

Catfish:????Catfish are still biting at DVL.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet got a 5.94 pound catfish. He was fishing with anchovies fifteen feet below the wave attenuator. Shore angler, Gilberto Villasenor of Homeland, got a 2.93 pound catfish on anchovies.

Panfish:There is still a panfish bite at DVL most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams specifically near the stairways. The panfish have recessed from the banks in recent weeks. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method.

Lake Records:
Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.
Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: DVL would like to congratulate Mike Long of Poway who became the new Largemouth bass record holder this week with a 16.43 pound bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
