Lake Elevation: 1722.27 and dropping

Surface water temp: 68 - 72 degrees

Lake Hours: 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 70's with mild winds. As a general rule, Santa Ana winds do not negatively affect the lake.

Stop by the Marina and tell us about your fish!

Bass:??The Bass bite is on! The recent trout plants spurred into a feeding frenzy. Swimbaits were the lure of choice for the most successful anglers. LA Sliders, California Swimbabes, and stickbaits were the most reported lures. Anglers reported a solid drop shot bite on Roboworms in morning dawn, or Bass Snax in magenta flake. Fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet was heavily reported by drop shot fishermen anglers. The east dam, the rock quarry, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those fishing with swimbaits. Frankie Romeo managed two limits this week at 23.77 and 27.80 pounds all brought in on swimbaits, but would not surrender his secret fishing spot. Shawn and Justin Cooley of Ramona got four bass at 25.87 pounds. they were fishing with Cool trout swim baits at varied locations.

Trout: The recent trout stock dramatically improved the trout fishing. Trout were biting from 10-25 feet near the marina specifically along the shoreline fishing area, but the holdover trout were no where to be found. Kastmasters, mini jigs, Powerworms, and in line spinners were all great baits for trout. Shore angler Joseph Mendoza of Hemet got the biggest trout of the week at 9.26 pounds on a Berkley Blade Dancer.

Striper: ??Striped bass were on the attack this week. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits were the most reported lures for striper. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Matthew Middendorf of Beaumont got a 14.30 pound striper fishing the west dam with an LA Slider. Joe Merrill of Riverside got a 15.19 striper on a trout plug fishing the west side of the lake.

Catfish:????Catfish are still biting at DVL.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits were night crawlers, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Tim Cornahan of Sky Valley got a 7.69 pound Blue cat fishing the west dam with a night crawler at 5 feet.

Panfish: The panfish bite slowed this week. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish. Chad Taylor of Riverside got a 1 pound blue gill fishing the east dam with a night crawler at 15 feet.

Lake Records:

Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.
