Lake Elevation: 1716.57 and dropping
Surface water temp: 65 - 69 degrees
Fish Plants: 2,500 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbow trout will be planted November 20th.
Lake Hours: 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 80's with mild winds. As a general rule, Santa Ana winds do not negatively affect the lake.
Bass: Bass did not disappoint this week. Swim baits??were brining in some quality fish this week, but those seeking quantity suffered. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, and Huddlestons were the most reported baits. Drop shotting plastics remained a mainstay for at least a few fish. Ice jig reports were still coming through as a valid technique for deep fishing. The east dam, the west dam, shore line fishing, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those looking for bass. Charlee Dick of Moreno Valley pulled a 6.15 bass from an east dam abyss of 80 feet using a crank bait. Honree Davis and his son Evan got three bass totaling 13.6 pounds their biggest was 6.11 pounds. They were fishing at 10 feet with swimbaits on the east dam. Vernon Smith of Moreno Valley got a 5.43 pound bass fishing with a nightcrawler at 30 feet on the east dam. Lance Dashner of MorenoValley got a 6.2 pound bass fishing the east dam with a nightcrawler. Levi Berg of Hemet got a 6 pound bass fishing the east dam with an LA Slider.
Trout: Shore anglers were dominating trout this week. Trout were biting from 10-25 feet near the marina mainly along the shoreline fishing area, but the holdover trout were not showing. ??Kastmasters, mini jigs, Power Worms, and nightcrawlers were all seducing the trout. Jim Mehan of Winchester got a 5 pound trout fishing from shore with nightcrawlers. Shore slayer Haylee Todd of Corona got a 6.17 pound trout soaking lemon twist Powerbait 15 feet down. Tyler and Dayton Webb of Riverside each got their biggest trout at 4.25 pounds they were fishing in the marina with Powerbait.
Striper: ??Striped bass were on the attack this week. There was a bounty of limits reported with most of the fish ranging from 18 ??? 20 pounds. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits were the most reported lures for striper. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing points near the marina or on the west dam is advised. Jason smith of Indio got two stripers at 13.93 and 11 pounds. He was fishing with topwater lures on the west dam. Scott Eberhard of Big Bear got 4 stripers totaling 45 pounds. He was fishing with Huddlestons on the south shore.
Catfish:????Catfish are still lively at DVL.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.??Levi Berg of Hemet got a 5.5 pound catfish on the east dam. Shore angler Daniel Marberry of Murrrieta got an 11.16 and 10.08 pound catfish fishing with anchovies.
Panfish: There is still a panfish bite at DVL most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams specifically near the stairways. The panfish have recessed from the banks in recent weeks. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method.
