Lake Elevation: 1726.23 and dropping

Surface water temp: 68 - 72 degrees

Fish Plants: 2,500 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbow trout scheduled for October 25th if surface temperature remains consistent. In order to establish Brown Trout as a game fish at Diamond Valley Lake, the Department of Fish and Game will be planting approximately 2,800 pounds of fingerling Brown Trout, roughly 20,000 fish, on Thursday October 18th.

Lake Hours: 7:00 am ??? 5:30 pm.

Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 70's with mild winds. As a general rule Santa Ana winds do not negatively affect the lake.

Stop by the Marina and tell us about your fish!

Bass: ?? Many bass anglers were leaving happy this week. Reported baits and depths varied tremendously. Trout swimbaits , plastic worms, and ice jigs have been the most reported bass baits. Most anglers have had luck with the drop shot rig, using Roboworms in morning dawn, or Bass Snax in magenta flake. Fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet was heavily reported by successful anglers. The east dam, the rock quarry, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales. Sr. Snow got a 5 pound bass fishing with a ice jig. Jesse Mena of Hemet got a 6.32 pound bass fishing from shore with a trout swimbait. Jeff Belardes of San Clemente got the biggest reported bass of the week weighing 9.02 pounds, he was fishing with purple plastics at 35 feet on the west side of the lake.

Trout: ????DVL trout fishing was slow this week. Trout have been biting from 15- 60 feet along the west dam and the east dam. Successful anglers were trolling Kastmasters or Rapalas, or drifting nightcrawlers. When drifting or trolling using light line has separated those who succeed and those who get skunked. Fish no more than 4# when drifting and 6# while trolling. Most successful anglers prefer Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon over monofilament line. Lily Selig of Fountain Valley cought her biggest trout at 3.78 pounds which fell for a firetiger Rapala. Jim Potter of Hemet got a 3.16 pound trout fishing in the marina with a nightcrawler. ?ĮStriper: ??There were few stripers reported. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper. Traditionally the striper bite picks up in October, so stand by for the word. The time is near!????

Catfish:????Catfish are still biting at DVL.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.

Panfish: The panfish bite slowed this week. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet got two blue gill each just under a pound. These hand size pans fell for broken back brown trout Rapals trolled at 15 feet.

Lake Records:

Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.

Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: DVL would like to congratulate Mike Long of Poway who became the new Largemouth bass record holder this week with a 16.43 pound bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
