Bass: ??????There was a steady bass bite this week. Swimbaits, ice jigs, and drop shotted plastic worms have been the most reported bass baits. Most anglers have had the best luck fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet.. The east dam, the rock quarry, and the point to the left of the marina has been the most reported bass spots. Casey Sartori of Temecula got a 7 pound bass fishing the north shore with a swimbait at 10 feet. Charlee Dick of Moreno Valley got a 4 bass at 5 pounds each fishing the east dam at 25 feet with a swimbait. Alvin Morrison of Victorville got 4 fish between 4 and 5 pounds fishing on the east dam at 10 feet with a swimbait. Terry Mersy of Cardiff got a 6.11 pound bass fishing the east dam with a fluke.
Trout: ??The trout bite has remained fair at DVL. Trout have been biting from 15- 60 feet along the west dam and the east dam. The bite has been fair for those trolling as well as drift fishing. Recommended lures for trolling are Needlefish,??TD minnow lures, Berkley Frenzy lures, and Rapalas. Trailing a night crawler behind flashers or dodgers has been a good choice. When drifting or trolling using light line has separated those who succeed and those who get skunked. Fish no more than 4# when drifting and 6# while trolling. Most successful anglers prefer Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon over monofilament line. James Dinkins of Sun City got a 3.78 pound trout drifting nightcrawlers at 20 feet on the west dam. Big Daddy of Corona got a 2.5 pound trout drifting nightcrawlers on the east dam.
Striper: ??There were no striper reports this week. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper. Traditionally the striper bite picks up in October, so stand by for the word. The time is near!????
Catfish:??Catfish are still biting at DVL.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. David of Corona got a 5 pound catfish fishing with a nightcrawler at 30 feet near restroom 2. Mike Montoya got 3 cats totaling 15.6 pounds fishing with chicken livers in the rock quarry.
Panfish: The panfish bite slowed this week. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish.
