Trout fishing has been very good at Corona Lake this past week with many limits reported. The "official" trout opener kicks off this week with a big plant of trophy-sized rainbow trout in the eight to 12-pound range. The catfish action has also been good with many nice fish still showing.
??The trout bite has been very good, with anglers fishing from boats having the most success. Top baits are Rainbow or Orange Nitro Bait dipped in garlic Gravy. The hot spots have been the dam and the mountain side of the lake with both of these areas seeing lots of early limits for anglers fishing from boat. Many trout have also been showing for anglers on nightcrawlers in the afternoon hours.
??Mark Thomson, Riverside, caught two trout totaling 6-0 with the top one a 4-0 on Rainbow Nitro Bait fishing from shore. Jerry Foster, Elsinore, caught two trout totaling 2-0 on Orange Nitro Bait fishing at the dam. Bill Dempsey, Corona, caught five trout totaling 8-0 with fish to 2-0 on nightcrawlers fishing from boat. Dan Hayes, Riverside, caught five trout totaling 9-0 with fish to 2-0 on Orange Nitro Bait fishing the far side of the lake.??
??The catfish bite has been best at night or in deeper water from boats during the day. The top baits have been mackerel or shrimp dipped in garlic Gravy.
??Jake Robbins, Ontario, caught a 3-0 catfish on nightcrawlers fishing from shore.
The tilapia bite is all but over with few still showing. Nightcrawlers fished in the shallow water is the best bet for these fish, and some bluegill are also showing for anglers fishing the tilapia.
??Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights through October, and then nearest the full moon in November. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
