Good catfish action continues at Corona Lake with many quality fish being caught each week. The lake will receive its first stocking of rainbow trout this week from Mt. Lassen Trout Farms. The plants for this week and next week will be a mix of catfish and trout. The following week will be a big plant of trophy rainbows to kick off the "official" trout opener.
The catfish bite has been best at night or in deeper water from boats during the day. The top bait has been mackerel dipped in garlic Gravy.
Henry Stillwell, Compton, caught the top catfish this week at 19-4 on mackerel fishing from boat. Jaxon Welford, Norco, caught an 11-8 catfish. D.J. Berry, Elsinore, caught 12 catfish totaling 30-0 with fish to 5-0 on mackerel fishing from shore. Tom Lavornia, Huntington Beach, caught a 6-0 catfish on nightcrawlers fishing the dam.
The tilapia bite has cooled off a bit, but some are still showing. Nightcrawlers fished in the shallow water is the best bet for these fish, and some bluegill are also showing for anglers fishing the tilapia.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights nearest the full moon. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.

Lots of nice cats showing at Santa Ana River Lakes
Santa Ana River LakesGood catfish action at Santa Ana River Lakes with a flurry of double-digit fish caught this past week. The big lake and Catfish Lake have been the best spots to fish with Chris' Pond being very difficult to fish because of the steep sides because of low water levels. The best baits continue to be mackerel, the M&M (marshmallow and mealworm) combo, shrimp, and nightcrawlers, all dipped in Gravy. Anglers fishing from boats are still having the best success, especially with...... Read More
