Lake Elevation: 1728.88 and dropping
Surface water temp: 69 - 74 degrees
Fish Plants: Rainbow trout, 2,400 pounds May 17th. No catfish plants were scheduled for this summer. Keep your ears open for the first trout plant of the season. Stockings traditionally begin in October. The official date will be posted soon.
Lake Hours: 6:30 am - 6:00 pm.
Weather:??temperatures have been in the 70's with scattered winds up to 20 mph.
Bass: ??????There was a steady bass bite this week. The drop shot has been the preferred method for bass anglers. There has been a solid topwater bite for morning anglers and on the scattered overcast days this week. Trout pattern swimbaits have been successful due to trout moving into the shallows. Most anglers have had the best luck fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet. The main point on the south shore, the rock quarry, and the point to the left of the marina has been the most reported bass spots.
Trout: ????October has started off slow for trout. Trout have been caught from 15- 60 feet along the west dam and the east dam. The bite has been fair for those trolling as well as drift fishing. Downriggers, lead core line or diving planes can help achieve specific depths while trolling. Recommended lures for trolling are Needlefish,??TD minnow lures, Berkley Frenzy lures, and Rapalas. Trailing a night crawler behind flashers or dodgers has been a good choice. When drifting or trolling using a light line is imperative. It is advised not to use any more than 4# test line when drifting and 6# is the prime line to use while trolling. Most successful anglers prefer Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon over monofilament line. Garth Olson of Temecula got a 3.1 pound trout trolling a needlefish at 25 feet on the east dam. Matt Crowder of Corona got 4 trout totaling 9.86 pounds fishing with nightcrawlers on the east dam. Steve Brown got three trout weighing a total of 9.55 pounds drifting nightcrawlers on the east dam.
Striper: ??There were no striper reports this week. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper. Traditionally the striper bite picks up in October, so stand by for the word. The time is near! ????
Catfish:????Catfish reports have declined this week.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Shore angler Gilbert Villasenar of Homeland got a 3.18 pound cat that fell for anchovies fished at 15 feet.
Panfish: It was a great week for panfish. The bluegills have been bountiful. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams. Crappies are near the wave attenuator, the rock pile at the mouth of Rawson cove, or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish. Lance Dashnea was proud of his 1.29 pound blue gill caught on crickets.
