Bass: ????There has been plenty of satisfied bass anglers at DVL. Drop shotting finesse worms has been a successful method of coercing the fish. The lingering cloud cover throughout the week has induced the larger fish to bite much better than previous weeks. There has been a rise in topwater reports for morning anglers. Trout pattern swimbaits have been successful due to trout moving into the shallows. Most anglers have had the best luck fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet. The main point on the south shore, the rock quarry, and around the saddle dam has been the most reported bass spots. Scott Eberhard got a 6.16 pound bass fishing at 20 feet with a 12" Uptons worm. Bank fisherman Elliott M Lewis Jr. of Beaumont got a 6.14 pound bass fishing a Rat-L-Trap in the second cove. Katie Christensen of Orange got a 5.92 pound bass fishing a jig at 60 feet on the west dam.
Trout: ????The trout bite has been unstopable. The trout have been hunting down the shad schools leading to catches ranging from 15- 60 feet along the west dam and the east dam. The bite has been fairing well for those trolling as well as drift fishing. If you don't have a downrigger you are not out of the game lead core or diving planes can help achieve specific depths while trolling. Hot lures for trolling are Needlefish,??TD minnow lures, Berkley Frenzy lures, and Rapalas. Trailing a night crawler behind flashers or dodgers has been a lethal combination. When drifting or trolling light line is imperative. It is advised not to use any more than 4# test line when drifting and 6# is the prime line to use while trolling. Most successful anglers prefer Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon over monofilament line. Richard Cleveland, Toni, and Cory Buckley of Temecula got 12.5 pounds of trout trolling a needlefish at 40 feet on the east dam. James Paxton of yucaipa got a 10 pound limit drifting nightcrawlers on the east dam at 40 feet. Jesse Theis of Yucaipa got 4 trout at 11.5 pounds drifting nightcrawlers between 40- 60 feet on the south corner of the east dam. Jerrett Robidoux of Menifee got a 5.78 pound trout drifting nightcrawlers at 50 feet on the west dam. Barney Zimmerman of Grand Terrace got a 4.35 pound trout drifting nightcrawlers on the east dam at 20 feet. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet got three trout between 2- 3 pounds drifting worms on the east dam. Congratulations to Steven Record of Wildomar who got a 2.5 pound trout from shoreline, the first trout caught from the bank in nearly five months. He was fishing with nightcrawlers at 15 feet.
Striper: ??There were no striper reports this week.??Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper.
Catfish:????Catfish reports have declined this week.??The third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. There was a report of a five year old boy who got a 8.5 pound catfish in the third cove of shoreline fishing. Gary M Stinson of Hemet got three catfish at 21.06 pounds with the biggest at 8.2 pounds.
Panfish: It was a great week for panfish. The bluegills have been bountiful. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams. Crappies are near the wave attenuator, the rock pile at the mouth of Rawson cove, or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish.
