Lake Elevation: 1731.36 and dropping
Surface water temp: 74 - 78 degrees
Fish Plants: Rainbow trout, 2,400 pounds May 17th. No catfish plants were scheduled for this summer. Keep your eyes peeled for the first trout plant of the season. Stockings usually begin in October. The official date will be posted soon.
Lake Hours: 6:30 am - 6:00 pm.
Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 80's with strong winds in the afternoon.
Bass: ??????there was a steady bass bite this week. Drop shotting finesse worms has been a successful method of coercing the fish. There has been a solid topwater bite for morning anglers. Trout pattern swimbaits have been successful due to trout moving into the shallows. Most anglers have had the best luck fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet. The main point on the south shore, the rock quarry, and around the saddle dam has been the most reported bass spots. Ryan Mott of Hemet got a 4.48 pound bass trolling aq Needlefish at 25 feet by the east dam. Jim Mehan of Winchester got a 5 pound bass fishing the point to the left of the marina with a Rapala Shad Rap.
Trout: ????The trout numbers diminished this week. The trout have been caught from 15- 60 feet along the west dam and the east dam. The bite has been fair for those trolling as well as drift fishing. If you don't have a downrigger you are not out of the game lead core or diving planes can help achieve specific depths while trolling. Recommended lures for trolling are Needlefish,??TD minnow lures, Berkley Frenzy lures, and Rapalas. Trailing a night crawler behind flashers or dodgers has been a lethal combination. When drifting or trolling using a light line is imperative. It is advised not to use any more than 4# test line when drifting and 6# is the prime line to use while trolling. Most successful anglers prefer Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon over monofilament line. Sheldon Johnson of Hemet got 11 pound limit of trout fishing nightcrawlers on the east dam at 40 feet. Sue Anderson of Bloomington got a 5.5 pound trout fishing at 50 feet with green Powerbait on the east dam.
Striper: ??There was one striper report this week.??It came in at 10 pounds, caught on a topwater lure by the east dam. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper. Traditionally the striper bite picks up in October, so stand by for the word. The time is near!
Catfish:????Catfish reports have declined this week.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Melvin Hyde of Hemet got a two catfish at 15.5 pounds fishing the wave attenuator at 20 feet with shrimp.
Panfish: It was a great week for panfish. The bluegills have been bountiful. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams. Crappies are near the wave attenuator, the rock pile at the mouth of Rawson cove, or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish.
