Bass:Bass fishing at DVL has shown improvement. Drop shotting finesse worms has been successful in getting large quantities of small bass. As of late the larger bass have been reluctant to bite. Ice jigging has been one reported method for getting larger fish out of deep water. ??There have been a few anglers getting live bait, but finding a prime area has been challenging. Areas where shad is abundant fishing with flukes combined with underspins or suspending cranks have been effective. Most anglers have had the best luck fishing the points between 25 and 45 feet. The main point on the south shore, the rock quarry, and around the saddle dam has been the most reported bass spots.
Trout: ??????The trout are jumping in the boat at DVL. Trout fishing has been phenomenal for trolling and drifting alike. The trout have been on the move leading to catches ranging from 15- 60 feet along the west dam and the east dam. For those who choose to troll, lead core line, or diving planes are effective alternatives to a downrigger. Hot lures for trolling are Needlefish,??TD minnow lures, Berkley Frenzy lures, and Rapalas. Trailing a night crawler behind flashers or dodgers has been a lethal combination. When drifting, light line is imperative. It is advised not to use any more than 4# test line. The use of scents and dips have been augmenting the drift bite. Bill Burns, Bruce burns, and David Rolph of Moreno Valley got 48 pounds of trout with their biggest at 5.7 pounds. They were drifting worms at 50 feet on the west dam. Cliff graham of Cathederal City got a 16 pound limit fishing with night crawlers on the west dam at 70 feet. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet got a 15 pound limit with his biggest at 4 pounds drifting worms on the west dam at 50 feet. Bryan Eddy and Chris Hurn of Corona Got their biggest at 4.44 and 4.0 pounds fishing the west dam at 40 feet. Matt Thompson of Hemet got his two biggest trout at 4.4 and 4.7 pounds. He was drifting shad 40 feet on the west dam.
Striper: ??There were no striper reports this week.??Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper.
Catfish:????Catfish reports have declined this week.??The third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most effective baits have been anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet of water. Robbie Tarbaux of Highland got a 10.2 pound catfish on the west side of the lake fishing with night crawlers at 50 feet.
Panfish: It was a great week for panfish. The bluegills have been bountiful. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams. Crappies are near the wave attenuator, the rock pile at the mouth of Rawson cove, or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish.
