In spite of some rainy weather this past weekend, the trout action at Corona Lake remained excellent before, during, and after the rains with many anglers posted nice stringers of trout averaging about two pounds each.

The week's two top stringers were posted by boat anglers on Saturday when Roger and Luisa Collum, both Corona, landed 20 rainbows for 45 pounds with a four-pounder their top trout. Crissa Gayagas and Don Bragg, both Lake Elsinore, also landed 20 rainbows for 50 pounds total, and their best fish was a four-pounder.

Those two trout at four-pounds were the best reported this week, but most stringers seemed to have at least one fish in that three- to four-pound range. The rains and cool nights have scattered the fish out, and quite a few have been showing at the stream inlet at the upper end of the lake in the trees and at the dam outlet where there is moving water. Quite a few fish remain in the deeper water at the dam and along the far side channel.

The best action has been on bright-colored floating baits in lighter colors, especially chartreuse, spring green, yellow, peach, and white. Anglers fishing small jigs in the same colors are also doing pretty well, and adding garlic scent to the floating boats or the jigs improves the number of strikes.

Jerrod Hampen and Bill Serblie, both Mira Loma, landed seven rainbows for 18 pounds fishing jigs from shore, and their best trout was a three-pounder. Martin Torres and David Diaz, both Moreno Valley, also had seven trout and their stringer weighed 14 pounds with all the fish on jigs from shore.

Corona Lake is getting hefty trout plants each week, but the official trout season opener has been set for Friday, Nov. 18, when Corona Lake will receive some of the biggest trout and largest loads of fish ever delivered here. Details aren't final, but angler's can check The Lakes web site at www.fishinglakes.com to get the latest updates.
