Santa Ana River Lakes anglers continue to see very good action on catfish and tilapia. The catfish are still being planted each week with deliveries of Silver King channels from the Imperial Catfish Farm, and a few real quality fish continue to show each week.

This past week's the top catfish was a 13 1/2-pounder landed by Doug Cherry, Placentia, while fishing shrimp at Levitz' Corner. Most stringers are filled with two-pound class fish and they are showing on a wide variety of stink baits in deeper water, so boat anglers or those making long casts from shore are having the most success.

John Goslin, Villa Park, had five cats for a total of 11 pounds and his top fish was a four-pounder. He was fishing mackerel from a boat. Tony Albano, Anaheim Hills, had five cats for 10 1/2 pounds on nightcrawlers from the Catfish Lake, while Anthony Aguilar, Orange, landed five cats for 10 pounds fishing meal worms at the Bubble Hole.

The tilapia are best in the afternoons in the warmer shallows, and nightcrawlers pieces have been the best baits. Santiago Palacios, West Covina, and Trinop Magana, La Habra, landed 11 tilapia and one catfish on nightcrawlers at The Road, and the best tilapia was 2 1/4 pounds.

There are some "big" plans for the trout opener, and anglers are going to have "tons" of fun, but all the details aren't final yet. Anglers can check The Lakes website at www.fishinglakes.com for the latest news.
