The catfish and tilapia bites remain very good at Santa Ana River Lakes. The catfish are being planted each week with deliveries of Silver King channels from the Imperial Catfish Farm, and many of the tilapia being landed are fish topping two pounds.

Martin Chavez, Orange, had the week's top catfish, a six-pounder that topped off his four-fish, 12-pound catch, all made on mackerel at Levitz' Corner. Trino Magana, La Habra, landed five cats for 13 1/2 pounds on shrimp at The Road, while Mike Ortiz, Anaheim, had five cats for 14 pounds on the marshmallow-nightcrawler combo at the spillway. Top tilapia was a three-pounder landed by Santiago Palacios, West Covina, as part of a three-catfish, two-tilapia stringer that weighed 12 1/2 pounds, all on nightcrawlers are The Road, while Brian Parker, Fullerton, landed a 2 1/2-pound tilapia and three cats for a 10 1/2-pound stringer.

While few anglers target the carp, Rodrigo Esparza, Hawthorne, landed a 14-pound carp on a nightcrawlers in the Catfish Lake. Cooler nights and mornings have the water temperature dipping at SARL, but the water is still too warm for the trout. The tentative kick off to trout season is now Friday, Nov. 18, and there will be a "giant" surprise for anglers is what is destined to be the "biggest" SARL opener ever. While all the details aren't final yet, anglers can check The Lakes website at www.fishinglakes.com for the latest news.
