Corona Lake continues to have limit-style fishing for the Silver King catfish that are planted twice a week. Most of the five-fish stringers weigh right in at 10 pounds with the fish hitting a nice two-pound average, but there have been some big-fish surprises.
The nightcrawlers-marshmallow combination seems to be the bait seeing the most use right now, with shrimp a close second, and both are getting lots of fish.
David Forill, Murrieta, used shrimp to catch the week's best catfish at 19 pounds fishing shrimp at the dam on Saturday. Tony Williams, Hesperia, landed a 26 1/2-pound sturgeon fishing shrimp from shore. Just a sampling of the limits reported this past week included a five-fish catch that weighed 11 pounds total posted by Luke Perez, Riverside, on the nightcrawlers-marshmallow combo. Eddie Espinosa, Anaheim, had two limits this past week that weighed 10 and 11 pounds, all on the same nightcrawlers-marshmallow combo. Terry and Josh Dorsey, Duarte, landed five cats for just under 10 pounds on shrimp.
The tilapia bite has also been pretty good on nightcrawlers pieces, and these fish are planted at least once a week. Top tilapia reported this past week was a 1 1/2-pounder.
