There was a good catfish bite at Corona Lake this past week as we moved into the full moon on Wednesday this week. There have been a lot of nice stringers of fish and some good quality cats landed. The tilapia bite has also been good for anglers targeting the tasty panfish.

The south end of the lake in the flooded trees has been the best spot to get a limit of cats and the fish are up off the bottom cruising and more fish have been landed on bobber-suspended nightcrawlers or marshmallow buoyed baits than those soaked right on the bottom. The best bait combo has been the fresh shrimp-marshmallow bait.

The best fish of the week were all landed on nightcrawlers, however. The best fish of the week were all landed on nightcrawlers, however. Mike and Adelina Martinez, Riverside, had an 11-pound catfish on a nightcrawler fishing off the south shoreline at night, and Orlando Valenzura, Moreno Valley, caught a 13 1/2-pound sturgeon on a nightcrawlers from shore. The top tilapia reported was a two-pound fish caught by Tom Percy, La Verne, fishing nightcrawlers from his float tube, and he had a nice mixed stringer of cats and tilapia. Letty, Art, and Gabe Chavarria, of Colton and Anaheim, landed five cats for 13 pounds with a five-pounder the top fish. They were fishing from a boat with mackerel.

Catfish are planted twice a week, usually on Tuesday and Friday, and the tilapia are added at least once a week.
