Bass
Anglers are digging deep for largemouth. 30-60 feet of water is the common depth range for bass. Fishing points and steep banks all over the lake scraped up a few bass this week. The Carolina rig, the drop shot, spoons, swimbaits, and ice jigs got some great fish. Brush Hogs and reapers worked well for the Carolina rig. Margarita mutilator, oxblood and bold bluegill finesse worms worked for the drop shot. Rapala jigging raps work great for deep water bassin'. Kastmasters in the ? oz, Krocodiles, and Little Georges also worked great for deep water bass. Swimbaits got some big bass after the trout plant this week. The primary big baits being Huddlestons, LA Sliders, triple trouts and Z plugs. The shad have been up intermittently so small shad surface and subsurface baits are also a great option for your arsenal. The biggest bass of the week was caught by Bob Stevens who hooked a 9.2 pound bass while drop shotting a salt and pepper worm by Preferred Plastics.
Trout
DVL had a great week of stout trout. Shore anglers and boaters caught limits and lunkers on Powerbait, nightcrawlers, mini jigs, and trout worms. The east dam is the hot spot for rainbows. Hadley and Aaron Easley of Hemet filled their stringers with trout fishing from shore with jigs. Alex and Jacob Nowicki of Wildomar caught their two biggest trout at 4.66 and 5.16 pounds.
Striper
There was a stampede of striper slayers bombarding the east side for some of those huge DVL Linesides. With low light conditions and a recent trout plant it was a perfect week for striper anglers. LA sliders, Lunker Punkers, and Zplugs were the best baits of the week. Alejandro M reported a 10.9 pound striper caught from shore. Kenny Baldwin of Highland caught two striper at 6.5 and 8.5 pounds fishing from shore with a Producer Plug. Derek Quinonez of Highland caught his biggest striper at 13 pounds fishing from shore with a Producer Plug. Ted Cramer of Mission Viejo caught a 15.5 pound striper fishing near the east dam with a triple Trout.
Catfish
There were no catfish reports this week. The most common spots are the wave attenuator, the inlet, and the west dam. Mackerel, anchovies, and shrimp will usually do the trick.
Panfish
The panfish bite is on the decline and will continue to drop in conjunction with surface temps. Jigs, nightcrawlers, and, mealworms are typical baits for panfish with the dams being the best spots. Art Gutierrez of Alta Loma caught a 1.48 pound blue gill fishing from shore with shad.
