With surface temps dropping so is the shad so use your fish finder to locate the bait. Use a fluke, ice jig, Senko, or spoon to harpoon a mass of bass. The drop shot is still hot with oxblood and margarita mutilator. Carolina rigged brush hogs are also great baits. Shore anglers are dominating the trout bite. Powerworms, nightcrawlers, or mini jigs are good for the rainbows. The trout are in the weeds so fish the thicket to ensure a limit. Mike Kostial of Oceanside caught a 9.3 pound trout fishing with a swimbait. Use swimbaits to blindside a lineside when DFG or Lassen drop fat fodder for the gluttonous striper. Fish shad baits like spoons or flukes when the trout get wiped out. Michael Morton of Hemet caught an 8.75 pound striper fishing from shore with a Huddleston. Kenny Baldwin of Highland caught a 9.5 pound striper with a producer plug. Javier Lopez of Alta Loma caught a 15.62 pound striper fishing from shore with a shad. DVL has seen a slight catfish bite. The north corner of the east dam is the spot where cats are hot. Mackerel or anchovies great bait for fat cats. Giueda Chen of Los Angeles caught an 11.70 pound cat fishing with mackerel. Chris Hagopian of Redondo Beach caught 5 cats at 7 pounds a piece fishing with mackerel. If you're on a mission for panfishin' a mini jig or worm will get a big blue gill or crappie. The east dam is the hot spot.
