BASS
Cold weather, high winds, and poring rain kept most anglers at home this week, but the die hard bass addicts proved that when the weather is bad DVL is still great. The Valley Wide Recreation tournament this weekend proved the resilience of DVL bass fishing. 61 teams caught a total of 216 fish, the top 8 teams weighed bags over 20 pounds. The 25.61 pound winning bag went to Richard Lee and Frank Taylor earning them a $2,554 payout. The biggest fish of the tourney weighed 7.48 pounds caught by Michael Nemec and Chris Darvey.
TROUT
Three trout plants this week, one by Mt. Lassen, and two by DFG provided ample opportunity for trout anglers to catch some great limits, but the weather conditions discouraged fisherman. Mini Jigs, Powerbait, nightcrawlers, and Thomas Buoyants were the best this week. The biggest trout of the week weighed 6.6 pounds caught bySteve Ekema of San Jacinto who was fishing in Rawson cove with a Rapala.
STRIPER
This week the striper fishing was the best we have seen all year. Dusty Parker of Cherry Valley caught a 14.6 pound striper fishing from shore with a Lunker Punker. Scott Reed of Riverside hooked a 17.81 pound striper on his fly rod near the east dam. Matt Thompson of Hemet caught two striper at 26.14 and 22 pounds fishing along the east dam with Zplugs. Shaun Riding of Hemet caught his biggest striper at 26.24 pounds fishing with a Zplug near the east dam. Christian Alkire of Hermosa Beach caught the biggest recorded striper of the week at 26.48 pounds fishing with a swimbait from shore.
CATFISH
There were no catfish reports this week. The most common spots are the wave attenuator, the inlet, and the west dam. Mackerel, anchovies, and shrimp will usually do the trick.
PANFISH
The panfish bite is on the decline and will continue to drop in conjunction with surface temps. Jigs, nightcrawlers, and, mealworms are typical baits for panfish with the dams being the best spots.
