BASS
Incoming cold fronts chilled the bass fishing this week. Most folks catching are fishing deep, between 35 and 50 feet. Carolina, Texas, and drop shot rigged plastics fished on points and swimbaits fished on the east side were the most common methods lately. Carolina or Texas rig watermelon brush hogs, or dark colored worms over 7 inches. Drop shot finesse worms in oxblood or black grape. Ikas and chatterbaits are also baits worth mentioning.
TROUT ?
There were a few big trout this week, but the cold weather kept most fishermen at home making it difficult to judge the potential of DVL trout fishing. Mini Jigs, nightcrawlers, and trout worms were the best baits this week. Chris Dodder of Yucaipa caught a 7.2 pound trout fishing near the east dam with a mini jig.
STRIPER
Striper fishing was decent this week. Most of the catches were from boaters fishing near the inlet and the east dam. Just about any swimbait will do. Jesse Mena of Hemet caught a 11.59 pound striper fishing with a lunker Punker near the east dam. James Smelt of Murrieta caught a 21.06 pound striper fishing with a Zplug. Scheila Eharn of Murrieta caught a 16.45 pound striper fishing with a Zplug.
CATFISH
Not many folks are fishing for cats right now, but there were some nice ones this week. Saydene Bounlent of Riverside caught a 11.83 pound cat fishing with mackerel. The biggest cat this week caught by Jason Phang of West Covina weighed 31.20 pounds.
PANFISH ?
?The panfish bite is on the decline and will continue to drop in conjunction with surface temps. Jigs, nightcrawlers, and, mealworms are typical baits for panfish with the dams being the best spots.
