Pyramid Lake was at 90 percent of capacity with water temperatures in the mid-70s and excellent water clarity. Most anglers targeted striped bass, which fed on the surface throughout the lake, with Espetites, small flukes, and spoons producing strikes despite the fish being finicky, while persistent anglers who worked the schools with repeated casts found success. The most consistent striped bass bite came on cut sardines fished in 30 to 60 feet of water using light line and high-quality bait, with many fish weighing between 5 and 10 pounds. Bass anglers caught quality largemouth and smallmouth on topwater lures during the morning and finesse presentations throughout the day, with drop-shot rigs, shaky heads, and Senkos in green pumpkin, shad, and watermelon proving most effective. Catfish were caught on cut sardines, chicken liver, and nightcrawlers fished on Carolina rigs, although expanding weed beds made bottom-contact bait fishing increasingly difficult.
