Castaic Lake was at full pool with water temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s, and an algae bloom had turned the water into a green soup before the lake was treated early in the week, with water clarity expected to improve. Prior to the treatment, anglers experienced good finesse bass fishing by using drop-shot rigs with 3- and 4-inch baits in cinnamon, shad, and purple, while Senko-style baits also produced well around 15 feet of water. Local anglers using light line and C3 Baits in deeper water regularly caught largemouth bass weighing 4 to 5 pounds. Striped bass were caught on cut sardines in 25 to 50 feet of water, with the buoy line and Elizabeth Canyon producing the best action, while catfish were taken near the West Ramp on dip baits, chicken liver, and cut baits.
