Rainbow trout were the best bet at Pyramid this week

Pyramid held near full pool with morning water temperatures dropping below sixty degrees. Bass anglers reported the normal slow winter bite at Pyramid with deep water drop shot, deep diving crankbaits, and large trout imitations leading the way. Striped bass have been on the slow side during the winter transition, but several bigger fish were reported by anglers throwing magnum trout imitations. Rainbow trout were the best bet at Pyramid with anglers getting bites with dough baits, Mousetails, live worms, and spoons near the marina. Catfish anglers scored bites with cut baits, dip bait, and live worms.

• The Bakersfield Firefighters trout derby was held last Saturday, and the trout bite was excellent
Ming Lake: Bass here at Ming are very active right now
Buena Vista Lakes: Fishing was decent at BV with trout anglers picking away at the remaining rainbows from the fishing derby
Hart Park Lake: Fishing was fair at Hart Park with largemouth and bluegill as the best bets
Lake Nacimiento: The lake remained near 54 percent of its storage capacity, and water temperatures dropped into the low sixties
