Castaic Lake fell to 94 percent of capacity, and surface temperatures jumped into the mid to high seventies. Anglers reported heavy boat traffic and murky water conditions after the 4th of July weekend. Bass anglers used small finesse baits in shad, Aaron’s Magic, and Margarita Mutilator to trick bass. Jerkbaits and square bill crankbaits got bit along muddy shorelines and points, and early morning anglers reported some topwater bass before the pleasure boaters showed up. Striper anglers hid from boat traffic at the Forebay buoy line and in Elizabeth Canyon. Striper ate cut sardines and lugworms on the fly line. Catfish anglers reported hooking up with dip bait, chicken liver, and cut sardines.
