Isabella rose slightly this week to 13 percent of capacity. The story of the week was of local angler Scott Flitcraft who stuck a 16-pound, 12-ounce largemouth on a worm around the tree line. He was fishing for crappie when he decided to switch and landed that enormous bass. Other than that, the overall bass fishing has been relatively slow for quantity. The quality is good, but anglers are having to work hard for a bite. Big worms, imitation crawdad and shad patterned baits have been scoring fish. The crappie action improved this week as fish moved into shallower water. Anglers reported slabs in 5 to 15-feet of water near the tree line. One of our contacts on a kayak caught a limit near Camp 9 in less than 10-feet of water with live minnows and minijigs. The annual Isabella Lake Fishing Derby continues to payout cash for tagged trout caught. Multiple tags were caught last week, and the trout bite has been steady. The DFWL stocked Isabella last week adding to the thousands of pounds stocked for the derby. Shore anglers have been scoring trout with minijigs, Powerbait, GULP! Pinched Crawlers and spinners. Boaters have been doing well trolling Needlefish, Flicker shad and Tasmanian Devils. The Catfish bite is solid and can be found with dip baits, shrimp and cut mackerel.
