BASS
Bass fishing at DVL remains GREAT! Folks are still reporting phenomenal numbers of smaller (between 1 and 3 pounds), but satisfying catches. Use topwater lures and swimbaits for the morning bite: Spooks, Xraps, Tango dancers, Sammy's, Zplugs and BBZ's are just a few great choices. The majority of reports have bass holding between 20 and 40 feet on main lake points. Plastics are king for deep fishing in the afternoon. There is always a non- stop drop shot bite at DVL. Finesse worms in morning dawn, margarita mutilator, prism shad, and watermelon with red flake are the best choices. Or try the Carolina rig. It works best with worms as large as 11 inches in dark brown, black, and dark purple. Wes Diaz from Riverside caught his first DVL bass, a 5.70 pounder, fishing from the shoreline with morning dawn Roboworms.

TROUT
A slow summer for trout! There were no reports of trout being caught this week. Fishing nightcrawlers near the dams has yielded results in the past. Most trout have been caught between 20 and 30 feet.

STRIPER
There were a handful of striper reports this week. Most catches were near Rawson cove and the west dam. Good news for shore anglers: there were several reports of stripers caught off the eastern shoreline! Swimbaits and scroungers are some of the best baits. Kyle Ioffrida of Westminster caught a 12.5 pound striper at 30ft using a spoon on the West Dam. Kenny Baldwin of Highland caught an 12 pounder fishing with a producer plug on the west dam.

CATFISH
The cats have made a comeback! Several anglers reported catches over 5 lbs. Mackerel and anchovies have been the most reported baits, but shrimp and chicken liver has accounted for a few reports. The most reported areas have been the saddle dam, Rawson cove, near the quarry, and along the east dam. Tray Davis of Murrieta caught an 11.02 pound catfish from the eastern shoreline fishing with mackerel.

PANFISH
Panfish are still biting. Large catches of Blue gill, red ear sunfish, and crappie are common for the persistent angler. Most anglers are catching them along the dams with mini jigs, mealworms, or nightcrawlers.
