BASS
DVL is the place to be if you love bass fishing. Folks are still reporting phenomenal numbers, but most catches ranged between 1 and 3 pounds. The morning is perfect for topwater lures and swimbaits. Spooks, Xraps, Tango dancers, Sammy's, Zplugs and BBZ's are just a few examples of great choices for the morning bite. The majority of reports have bass holding between 20 and 40 feet on main lake points. For deep fishing plastics are king. There is always a non stop drop shot bite at DVL. Finesse worms in morning dawn, margarita mutilator, prism shad, and watermelon with red flake are the best drop shot choices. The Carolina rig works best with worms as large as 11 inches. Carolina colors are dark brown, black, and dark purple. Michael Nguyen of Santa Ana released over 40 fish between 3 and 4 pounds drop shotting Roboworms on the west dam. His biggest fish weighed in at 10 pounds caught on a Spro BBZ-1. Dung Nguyen of Santa Ana released a total of 35 fish, drop shotting on the west dam. Samantha Garcia of Cathedral city caught a 3.5 pound bass fishing on the east dam with a spinnerbait. Mitch Kinser of Ontario released 10 fish with his biggest at 7 pounds. All fish were caught on the drop shot between 20 and 30 feet. Rob Departee of Chino caught his personal best bass weighing over 5 pounds drop shotting a Roboworm. Jimmy Burrell of Riverside caught a 5.22 pound bass fishing with a shad Rapala. Dennis Harris caught a 5 pound bass fishing the south side with a cricket. Jake Ray of Murrieta caught a 3 pound bass trolling a Rapala at 30 feet on the north shore.
TROUT
There were no reports of trout being caught this week. Fishing nightcrawlers near the dams has yielded results in the past. Most trout have been caught between 20 and 30 feet. Michael Wolf of Redondo Beach caught his two biggest trout weighing near 5 pounds fishing with nightcrawlers on the west dam.
STRIPER
There were a handful of stirper reports this week. Most catches were near Rawson cove and the west dam. Swimbaits and scroungers were the reported baits this week.
CATFISH
The cats have made a comeback! Several anglers reported catches over 5 lbs. Mackerel and anchovies have been the most reported baits, but shrimp and chicken liver has accounted for a few reports. The most reported areas have been the saddle dam, Rawson cove, near the quarry, and along the east dam. Elias Lopez of Fontana caught a 2.87 lb catfish using Powerbait in the 3rd cove of the shore line. Van Palmer of Riverside caught a 7.6 lb catfish with chicken liver near the wave attenuator. Michael Ma of Riverside caught an 11.14 pound cat fishing with mackerel in Rawson cove. James Bennett of Hemet caught an 8.93 pound cat fishing with mackerel near the wave attenuator. Joshua King of Fresno caught a 7.7 pound cat fishing with a nightcrawler in Rawson cove.
PANFISH
Panfish are still biting. Large catches of Blue gill, red ear sunfish, and crappie are common for the persistent angler. Most anglers are catching them along the dams with mini jigs, mealworms, or nightcrawlers. Neal and Miller Handy caught their bluegill using tried-and-true meal worms.
