BASS
The spawn is still on! Drop shot rigged 6" plastics in purples, pinks, and greens continue to be the mainstays. Senkos and Ikas in watermelon, and Texas rigged watermelon brush hogs were also effective baits. The south corner of the east dam and west dam, behind restroom 3 and near restroom 2 were the hot spots for bass. David Tiscarenc of La Verne caught a 6.9 pound large mouth bass drop shoting by the west dam in 10 feet of water. Nick Barrett of Hemet caught a 4.27 bass fishing plastics near the west dam in 15 feet of water. Pat Sampson of Hemet caught a 3.1 pound bass fishing plastics near the west dam.
TROUT
Trout fishing was decent for shore anglers. Stocking 1000 pounds of Mt. Lassen trout on April 10th stimulated the bite. Powerbait, nightcrawlers, and mini jigs were the staple baits. Robert Datton of highland caught a 5.64 rainbow trout fishing with powerbait on shore in the cove near the east dam. After this calm Easter weekend the trout will undoubtedly stay hungry through the week.
STRIPER
There were no reports of Striper catches this week. The most common baits for striper are swimbaits and large plugs either trolled or fished on the points and near the inlet/outlet tower.
CATFISH
The catfish are stirring! There were several large catches reported this week. Trollmiester from Redondo Beach and Pontoon from Huntington Beach limited out with 10 catfish each, fishing with mackerel near the east dam in 20-30 feet of water. That's almost 100 pounds of catfish each! The most effective catfish baits have been mackerel, anchovies, and shrimp fished near the east dam, 3rd cove of shoreline fishing, and near the wave attenuator.
PANFISH
Panfish season is rearing its head with more frequent catches of crappie and sunfish. The fish are gradually moving into the shallows, so the hot bite is just around the corner. Several crappie catches were reported this week. Jesus Valdez of Los Angeles caught a 2.29 pound crappie with nightcrawlers fishing the southern shoreline. Scott Holley of Torrence caught a 2.7 pound crappie in 10-15 feet of water fishing in Rawson Cove.
