Recently, there has been more and more sightings of shad and little silver side minnows. Some fish have been seen boiling on the bait occasionally as a result. The bait is still really small, so things haven’t been wide open yet, but there has been a handful of anglers lucky enough to find some boils, mainly on the fish arm or wherever there is bait. Topwater, flukes and some reaction baits have been working best. If you match the hatch it seems to be producing the best. The majority of anglers have still been using sardines, anchovies and lug worms. There haven’t been too many limits to reports, but a few per angler seems to be the census. Largemouth and smallmouth fishing has picked up slowly and most catches have been coming on plastic worms. The good old drop shot has been producing good numbers, especially when it hits triple digits and it gets hot out. Some reaction fish have been reported as well, mainly first thing its the morning and later in the evening. The catfish have been making more of an appearance as of late and most fish have been caught on mackerel, chicken livers and garlic night crawlers. The bluegill and crappie have picked up and anglers have been managing limits. Mealworms, wax worms and pieces of nightcrawlers have been working for most, with the best crappie fishing being down at the lower lake.
