Bass: Bass fishing was rather slow this week. The drop shot or Carolina rig were the best methods for bass fisherman. ??4" worms in green or purple worked great for the drop shot rig, and brushog's and lizards in variations of green pumpkin or watermelon seed were great for those using the Carolina rig. Pig and jigs also picked up some nice bass this week. The swimbait bite has tapered, but big baits are still worth the effort bringing in some big bass this week. Z -Plugs, LA Sliders, Spro BBZ, and Huddlestons were the most reported lures with most of those catches occurring within the first 15 feet of water. Swimbait fisherman were focusing on the dams and near the marina, mainly in the morning, while worm and jig fisherman were working south shore points 30 ??? 45 feet down. Belen Ladd of Temecula got his personal best bass an 8.91 pound hog that ate an LA Slider on the north corner of the east dam. Charlee Dick of Moreno valley got an 8 pound bass fishing from shore with a swimbait.
Trout: ??Shore anglers continue to dominate the trout bite while boat anglers have been lacking limits. Trout were biting near the marina specifically along the shoreline fishing area , but holdover trout have been few. Most trout were caught between 10-25 feet with Powerbait in green or rainbow. Inflated night crawlers fished off the bottom were heavily reported this week. Kastmasters and mini jigs were the lures that worked the best for trout. Terry Conklin of San Dimas got a 5.57 pound trout fishing from shjjore with Powerbait. Armond Arealaus of Temecula got a 4 pound trout fishing from shore with green Powerbait. Twelve year old Matthew Bolton of?? san Jacinto got a 7.6 pound trout fishing from shore but would not give up the goods ass to what he was using. Thomas Mendez of Azusa got a 7.9 pound trout fishing the west dam with nightcrawlers. John Dike and Sheryl Thornton of Hemet were happy with their limits of two pound trout all caught on rainbow Power eggs. Frank Solorio of Lake Elsinore got a 6.3 pound trout caught from shore with an undisclosed bait. Adam Pereida of Beaumont got a 7.74 pound trout fishing from shore with mini jigs. Jim Mehan of Winchester got a limit of holdovers totaling 19 pounds. he was fishing from shore with nightcrawlers. Kristen Dunkin of Hemet got a 5.4 pound trout fishing in the marina with Powerbait. Danielle Cunningham of Hemet got a 7.6 pound trout fishing in the marina with Powerbait. Matt Thompson of Hemet got a 7.67 pound trout fishing the north shore with nightcrawlers. Jason Thompson of Upland got a 6.02 pound holdover while drop shotting plastic worms in the rock quarry.
Striper: The striper bite was considerably slower this week than in the past. Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots for boaters.
Catfish: ??Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Melvin Hyde of Hemet got two cats at 8.89 and 7.10 pounds fishing with shrimp along the wave attenuator.
Panfish: There were few panfish reports this week, but most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method. Frankie Romeo of Temecula got a 2.84 pound crappie fishing the east dam with a cool spin lure.
