Bass: bass fishing has been on a steady clime to being in its prime time. The tournament season is upon us resulting in many anglers being tight lipped, but there have been those who could not contain their excitement, attesting to what has been some of their best fishing days at DVL. Reports of limits 20 pounds and over have been common and anglers have been steadily sticking 3-4 pound bass. Slow fished 3-4" green or purple finesse worms have been the primary method. Light line has been crutial with many anglers dropping as low as 4 pound test to secure bites. Bass have been holding steady between 30 and 40 feet along secondary points. The American Bass tournament yielded spectacular results with Rick and Kyle Grover getting top stick with a 24.82 pound bag their kicker weighing 7.03 pounds. John and Royce Krumsiek got a close second with a 24.11 pound limit.??
Trout: ??Neither the weather or the trout bite disappointed anglers this week. boaters as well as shore anglers have been taking advantage of the incredible DVL trout bite.??The best trout spots have been near the marina and along the shoreline fishing area, but there have been scattered reports of fish being caught on the east dam, the west dam, and on the north shore. Most reports have trout between 10-25 feet, but boaters have reported fish as deep as 40 feet.??Powerbait in green or rainbow has been a mainstay for trout anglers. Inflated night crawlers fished off the bottom with the addition of scents or Power Eggs was also a deadly method trout fishing from shore with the combo of rainbow Powerbait and an inflated nightcrawler. Jeff Kinworthy of Hemet got three 5 pound trout fishing in the marina with mini jigs. Jamie Smith of Hemet got a 3.96 pound trout fishing with Powerbait from shore. Sue Anderson of Bloomington got a 4.41 pound trout fishing from shore with nightcrawlers. Paul Mastin of Nuevo got a 7.5 pound trout fishing from shore with Powerbait. Matthew Knowlton of Ann Arbor Michigan got a 6.60 pound trout fishing from shore with Powerbait.
Striper: The striper bite slowed to a crawl this week. Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots for boaters.
Catfish: Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet
Panfish: There were no panfish reports this week, but most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method. ??
