High winds and cooler temperatures slowed the bass bite a bit, although limit style fishing was still on tap. Shallow cranks, as well as a variety of plastics accounted for the bulk of the smallies and largies.
Catfish were still being caught in coves with creek channels in 3' to 10' of water on cut mackerel and dough baits. Some nice hold-over rainbows showed up last week and an 8 lb. "tail walker" was weighed in at the marina. Most of the action came from the dam area on dodger/crawler combos trolled at at 3 to 4 colors of leadcore.
Crappie were also in the mix and were taking mini-jigs in Santa Cruz Bay, Cachuma Bay and the narrows. Bow fishing for Carp slowed a bit, but with some warmer days the action should become steady in areas around the island and the buoy line in the narrows and Santa Cruz. Bluegill are becoming more common in the backs of coves around stick-ups and brush with the top baits being red worms and mealworms.
