Santa Ana River Lakes' continues to produce limit-style trout fishing thanks to the weekly plants of four - count 'em - four types of rainbow trout. All through April, SARL will be planted with Nebraska Tailwalkers, Sierra Bows, Big Bad Reds, and the giant Mt. Lassen Super Trout.

The bite has been exceptional on a wide variety of floating baits and the Power Mice and Lip Ripper Ratz. The small trout worms and trout jigs are also very good bets. The rainbows are still showing all around both lakes.

The big rainbow of the week was a 10-pounder caught by Devin Nguyen, Santa Ana, fishing a meal worm at Three Pipes. A 9 1/2-pound rainbow topped off an eight-fish, 19-pound stringer landed by Henry and EJ Manzo, Pico Rivera, fishing in Chris Pond. Al Rotta, Lomita, landed a 7 1/4-pound rainbow on orange dough bait in Chris' Pond, and Art and Shiela Howard, Orange, landed a five-pound rainbow to top off their eight-fish, 24-pound stringer caught on orange and white Power Mice in Chris' Pond.

There is an ongoing big fish contest running now through Sunday, May 13, at Corona and SARL and the angler who catches the largest trout between the two lakes on a Lip RipperZ product will win a free $500 Turner's Outdoorsman shopping spree. And all anglers who land any trout on a Lip RipperZ product and have their picture taken by one of the lake guides or at The Lakes' web cam will be eligible for an May 13th drawing for a second $500 shopping spree.

The catfish bite continues to improve with the warm weather, while none of the big blue cats planted three weeks ago were reported this past week, some pretty good catches of two- to three-pound catfish have been reported, mostly on mackerel, with the fish showing from all three lakes.
