Anglers pounded the rainbow trout at Corona Lake this past week and many stringers had quality fish from six to 17 pounds. The bite has been excellent on bright-colored floating dough baits, Mouse Tails, and jigs. Pink has been a hot color.
And of course, the biggest trout of the week was caught on a nightcrawler. The fish weighed in at 17-pounds and topped off a three-fish stringer reported by Ken Fuller and Mike Willis, both of Los Angeles, fishing on the right side of JD's Point. Chris Oliver, Corona, landed a 10 ?-pound rainbow at the dam on green floating bait, while Ronald Jones, San Bernardino, caught a 10-4 on white dough bait with red glitter near the boat ramp. Shon Roberts, Corona, had a 10-pound rainbow fishing a white Lip RipperZ jig from a boat.
Paul Rodriguez, Fontana, had six trout on chartreuse floating bait from the dam shoreline that weighed 26 pounds, and his stringer was topped off with a nine-pounder. Chad Homan, Escondido, landed two rainbows at nine and 6 ? pounds on pink Mice Tails at the dam. Erick Agosto, Eastvale, landed two rainbows with an 8-15 his top fish, both on pink Power Bait. Kurt Nelson, Lake Elsinore, had three trout for a total of 13 ? pounds, and his best fish was an 8 ?, all on Lip RipperZ jigs.
The crappie continue to show in the south end of the lake in the flooded brush with fish up to two pounds or better reported on small jigs. The catfish bite is really kicking into gear after a plant of blue catfish this past week. The few anglers targeting the cats are seeing good action on nightcrawlers and cut baits. Reggie Cauley, Carson, had four catfish for 20 ? pounds total, including one fish at 13 pounds.
