The Corona Lake trout action has been excellent almost constantly since early November, but now the catfish, crappie, and even largemouth bass bites have all joined the hot trout action. Anglers are having a mixed bag field day.

The trout continue to show on a wide variety of floating dough baits in bright colors, especially those impregnated or doused with garlic scent. The Berkley Mice Tails, Lip Ripper Ratz, small artificial trout worms, and small jigs have also been good bets this week. The best action was in deeper water this week, thanks to the warm weather, so boat anglers fishing mid-lake and in the deeper water at the dam were doing best. Shore anglers making long casts at the dam and points were also getting lots of rainbows.

While no huge trout were reported this week, quality rainbows anchored a lot of stringers. Rigo and Junior Serna, Mira Loma, had 10 trout that weighed 31 pounds, including one rainbow at five pounds. The pair were fishing nightcrawlers at the dam. Dwight Bowman, Calimesa, landed a 4 1/2-pounder to top off his 11-pound, three-fish stringer.

The top catfish stringer was an incredible 12-fish catch posted by Alex and Chris Cruz, both West Covina. The pair also had a rainbow in the mix and the stringer weighed in at 35 pounds with a 3 1/2-pound cat the top fish. They were using mackerel in the back corner of the lake for the cats and landed the rainbow on a Lip Ripper Ratz.

The bass are all along the shorelines in a spawn mode with a lot of fish protecting beds. Top bass reported was a 5 1/2-pounder reported by David Kelly, Rialto, on a white worm. Crappie to two pounds are showing in the stickups on small jigs or jigs tipped with Crappie Nibbles, and the bluegill bite is also starting to kick into gear.

There is an ongoing big fish contest running now through Sunday, May 13, at Corona and SARL and the angler who catches the largest trout between the two lakes on a Lip RipperZ product will win a free $500 Turner's Outdoorsman shopping spree. And all anglers who land any trout on a Lip RipperZ product and have their picture taken by one of the lake guides or at The Lakes' web cam will be eligible for an May 13th drawing for a second $500 shopping spree.

Anglers should also mark their calendars for the next Lip RipperZ' trout tournament set to be held May 5.
