BASS
Bass fishing is picking up. You can find them on the surface to 20 feet of water. Anglers reported bass from 4lbs to 11 lbs. Jigs, plastic worms, and small swimbaits have all been effective. Sam Fu of Rosemead caught a 6.65 lb bass on a nightcrawler. Richard Garcia of Beaumont caught an 11.87 lb bass on a jig. The winning bag of the Angler's Choice tournament was 35.8 lbs!! Great bag!!
TROUT
The last Mt.Lassen trout plant was on Tuesday, March 13. Many trout reported swimming along the shoreline, come and catch them! Powerbait, power worms, mini jigs, and nightcrawlers work well for trout. The Marquez Family of Hemet caught a 10.22 pound trout on a nightcrawler!
PANFISH
Some redear and bluegill reported swimming shallow along the shoreline. Nightcrawlers work well for bluegill, crappie, and redear. Consistent, warm weather will keep panfish shallow.
STRIPER
Striper fishing has been tough. Cut bait (sardines or anchovies), is your best bet. Trout pattern swimbaits like La Sliders and Huddlestons work well after the trout plants. Lee Gonzalez of San Jacinto, in caught a 25.47 lb striper shore fishing with a Castaic swimbait. Gerald Lim of Rancho Mirage landed a beautiful 24.8 lb striper with a fly over at the west end.
CATFISH
Few catfish have been reported since the record 56.8 pounder caught in the beginning of the month. Nightcrawlers and shrimp are effective for catfish.
