The action on rainbow trout has remained hot at Corona Lake over the past weekend, and hefty stocks of Sierra Bows this week will keep the action hot right through the end of the annual tagged trout event which runs through Sunday, March 4.

Tagged trout worth prizes up to a $144 value, along with cash tags worth $50 and $100, are featured in this tagged fish event.

The bite has been good on a wide range of floating dough baits in bright colors, and the "mouse" combos with a floating bait head and a trout plastic or nightcrawler tail have also been very good. Small jigs and trout plastics have also been good bets, and adding a garlic scent to all the different baits or lures had been a good idea. All should also be fished on light leaders, especially for the wary holdover fish and bigger rainbows.

Top fish this past week was a 9  ?-pound rainbow landed by Shon Roberts, Corona, that topped off a five-fish, 26-pound stringer caught while fishing from a boat. An eight-pound rainbow was landed by David Ramirez, Corona, and a 7  ?-pounder was caught by Joe Hamlin, Fullerton. Ryan Shearer and Miker Merriam, both Yucaipa, had eight trout for 27  ? pounds, including a 7  ?-pounder, while float tube fishing.

Chriss, Adam, and KC Koda, all Moreno Valley, had a 10-fish trout stringer that weighed 24 pounds and included a 5  ?-pounder. Anthony and Michael Gonzalez, both Corona, had 12 rainbows for 17  ? pounds, while Drew Clavser, Wildomar, landed five rainbows for a 16-pound total, including a four-pounder.

The warm weather before Monday's storm had all the fish in Corona Lake starting to bite. The catfish action was really picking up for the few anglers targeting these fish. Tony Williams and Fred Murry, both Carson, had an eight-pound catfish top off their eight-fish, 24-pound stringer caught on mackerel and chicken liver from a boat in the trees at mid lake. Antonio Torres and Carlos Gallegos, both Pomona, teamed up on a 15-pound sturgeon while fishing nightcrawlers from a boat.
