The bass bite has held pretty steady this past week, as largemouth and smallmouth were being caught all over the lake. Although the water temps are still in the mid 50's, fish have been moving up slowly and have been in as little as 3' of water in some locations. All bottom bouncing techniques have been productive, as well as crankbaits and spinnerbaits.
Trout fishing was fair in the early morning for trollers in Santa Cruz Bay, Howdys' point, and in front of Cachuma Bay. The dam area put out a few quality hold-overs as well. Best baits were Rapalas, cultiva minnows and super dupers from the surface to 15'. There is a scheduled plant from the Calaveras hatchery on the 17th of this month of 400 lbs. Shore anglers did well in Harvey's, powerbait and extra long leaders was key, and several near limits were caught in that area.
The Crappie bite in the narrows was inconsistent, although there were some slabs to 2 lbs. recorded at the boat launch station. Carp still not cooperating as of yet, but should really start to go in the near future.
