Cooler water temps made for a tougher Bass bite, as the fish retreated to 25' to 40' in the water column. Deepwater techniques did pick up some fish, but required substantial effort to do so.
The trout bite benefited from the cooler weather though, and trollers were able to get some fair to good action on Rapalas, needlefish and Kastmasters. Most of the rainbows were caught in Santa Cruz Bay, but Cachuma Bay and the dam area were also productive for some. Shore anglers had a bit of a flurry in Harveys Bay on PowerBait and inflated 'crawlers. There will be a 4,000 lb plant from the Calaveras hatchery on Friday Feb. 17th.
Crappie action dropped significantly from previous weeks, although there were still a few coming out of the narrows on trolled CD5 and 7 Rapalas. Other than a few catfish, all other species were slow.

All bottom bouncing techniques have been productive, as well as crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Trout fishing was fair in the early morning for trollers in Santa Cruz...... Read More

The water temperatures last week have the bass moving in to as little as 3' of water, and both species were taking a wide variety of baits. The west end of the lake had smallmouth stacked up on main and secondary points; and were caught on jigs, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits. The largies were caught through out the lake on jigs, creatures, blades, and cranks. Trout fishing was fair for trollers in Santa Cruz Bay, around Arrowhead Island...... Read More
