Trout action remains very good at Santa Ana River Lakes with many anglers reporting both limits and quality rainbows over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The trout have been showing all around the big lake and in Chris' Pond on a variety of floating dough baits, especially those doused with garlic scents or already pre-scented, and small trout jigs. Inflated nightcrawlers and the marshmallow-meal worm combos also accounted for quite a few fish.

The top rainbow reported was a 10-pounder landed by Kerry Gayagas, Corona, fishing green floating bait in the big lake on Friday. Matthew Jiminez, Montebello, had a nine-pounder in Chris' Pond, also on green floating bait, while Mike Emond, Whittier, had a near-eight-pounder to top off his four-fish stringer, all on inflated nightcrawlers in Chris' Pond. Al Escobar, Buena Park, landed a seven-pound rainbow on Power Bait, also in Chris' Pond, and Jesse La Pena, Rowland Heights, landed six-pound rainbow on the marshmallow-meal worm combo in Chris' Pond. Lots of nice stringers of one to three-pound fish have been reported. Some pretty typical catches: Armando and Ethan Gonzalez, both Anaheim, had 10 rainbows for 23 pounds and their top fish was a four-pounder. Bobby Resulta and Robert Serrano, both Garden Grove, landed nine grout for 19 1/2 pounds at the Bubble Hole. Henry Jr. and Henry Manzo Sr., both Pico Rivera, caught 10 trout for 19 pounds in Chris' Pond. Trino and Matthew Mangana, both La Habra, had eight trout for 18 pounds.

While few anglers are targeting the catfish, the bite remains very good. Bento Santes, Santa Ana, had the best five-fish catfish stringer of the week, weighing in at 19 pounds with a six-pounder his top fish. He was fishing mackerel in the big lake at the Road and in the Catfish Lake to make his catch. The big weekly trout plants will continue right through the Christmas holiday.
