The hot weather for the Fourth of July has really turned on the catfish action at Corona Lake, and limit-style fishing has been the rule for anglers fishing early and late in the day or at night. The fish are all around the lake but the flooded trees and edges of the brush and weed beds have been best.

Ramon and Isabelle Comacho of Whittier had a double limit of 10 catfish on Sunday for 21 pounds, and the big fish was a 5.2-pounder and the whole stringer weighed in at 21 pounds. The pair were fishing with shrimp off the point. A five-pound rainbow topped off Kevin Pugmine's catch. The Alta Loma angler was fishing mackerel off the point. Adrian Vargan, Alta Loma, landed a 4.5-pounder and Eddie Espinosa, Anaheim, also had a cat that size to top off his five-fish stringer. Vargan was fishing mackerel, while Espinosa was tossing the marshmallow-half-nightcrawler combo into the flooded trees from his float tube. Other good stringers were reported by Sergio Rodriguez, Riverside, with five fish at 14 pounds on the marshmallow-meal worm combo from a float tube, and a 10-fish, 17-pound catch was made by Carrie Sappenfield, Murrieta, fishing from a boat with the marshmallow-nightcrawler combo.

The tilapia bite has also been very good on nightcrawlers pieces, and these fish are planted at least once a week. The Silver King catfish are being stocked at least twice a week, usually on Tuesday and Friday.
