Nebraska Tailwalkers planted last week and Lightning Trout from the week before continue to fill stringers at Corona Lake, with a lot of kicker fish topping four pounds being caught.

Top rainbows this past week were a pair of 8 1/2-pounders, one landed by Michael Yamashita, to top off his two-fish 13-pound stringer. The second was caught by Andrew Melling, Riverside, who also had a pair of rainbows for 12 pounds total. Both anglers were fishing green floating dough baits. J.B. Gierlich, Riverside, had an eight-pound rainbow on a Lip RipperZ jig, and Aaron Palmer, Orange, also landed an eight-pound Tailwalker. A third eight-pounder was caught by Doug Baird, Anaheim, who landed four rainbows that weighed 17 pounds fishing from his float tube. Phupei Jardner, Los Alamitos, caught a seven-pounder on a nightcrawler.

Just a couple of the many stringers reported included a 10-fish, 24 1/2-pound stringer posted by Del Silva and Thomas Gomez, both Corona, fishing from shore with chartreuse floating bait. David Evans and Mike Wolfe, both San Diego, teamed up to land 10 rainbows for 15 1/2 pounds fishing from a boat.

The trout are showing for shore, float tube, and boat anglers. The hot baits for all the trout have been the green or chartreuse and orange floating dough baits and jig anglers are hammering the fish on green, orange, and white trout jigs.

Anglers are reminded that fish cleaning is now available by the lake's staff members, and if anglers are having trouble catching fish, they should check with the lake guides who are happy to share information and tips on fishing techniques and locations that have been hot.

Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors pay only $20. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The 24-hour passes are available the weekend nearest the full moon each month, with the next overnight fishing set for March 18-19. These passes cost $60 and anglers can bring a spouse and up to three kids to help fill the 24-hour pass 15-fish limit. Camping at Corona Lake is also free with a 24-hour pass. The trout action has been very good at Santa Ana River Lakes with a lot of Lightning Trout from the plant two weeks ago, and the big load of Nebraska Tailwalkers just before the weekend, keeping the action sizzling. There are two bits of information anglers fishing SARL will need to know. First, float tubes can be used again, thanks to special permission given to The Lakes by the water district. This applies only to tubes, not kayaks, canoes, or...... Read More
