Corona Lake's action on Lightning Trout has been excellent since the plant last week with a lot of trout limits reported and the Lightnings have been making up the bulk of the catch.
The Lightning Trout quickly spread throughout the lake and are showing for both shore, float tube and boat anglers. The hot baits for all the trout have been the green or chartreuse and orange floating dough baits and jig anglers are hammering the fish on green, orange, and white trout jigs. The top Lightning Trout reported early in the weekend was a four-pounder landed by Chad Streelman of Corona fishing chartreuse floating bait near the dam. It was the best trout of a five-fish limit that weighed 10 pounds. The biggest trout overall was a 12-pound rainbow landed by Lino Jubilado, Alhambra, on a jig fishing from shore near the dam to cap his limit.. One of the better catches reported was a 10-fish, 26-pound stringer landed by Richard Mongold and Daniel Meserayll, both Corona. The bait were fishing a yellow dough bait from a boat and their top fish was a five-pounder. Jason and Andrew Ackerman, of Fontana and Highland, respectively, had nine trout for 19 1/2 pounds with their big fish at 5 1/2 and 2 1/2 pounds fishing trout plastics from shore.
Elliott said that fishing cleaning is now available by the lake's staff members, and if anglers are having trout catching fish, they should check with the lake guides who are happy to share information and tips on fishing techniques and locations that have been hot.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors pay only $20. These passes cost $60 and anglers can bring a spouse and up to three kids to help fill the 24-hour pass 15-fish limit. Camping at Corona Lake is also free with a 24-hour pass.
